Disabled access work

August 31 2003 saw the official opening of the first phase of new access arrangements at the chapel.

One of our oldest members Nora Hague who has been coming to Fulwood old chapel for over 50 years, cut the ribbon.

June Pettit and Gavin Mason gave thanks to: the landscape gardeners, George and Pip Sampson who carried out the work so beautifully and on time; Neil Pritchard the architect and Janet Rowson for acting as 'Clerk of Works'.

While there was some sadness at the loss of some well loved plants and trees, we are all extremely pleased with the result. The sloping path provides easy access for wheel chairs, buggies and even bicycles, while the extra areas of lawn are perfect for gathering in the sun and for children to run about on.

Further work is planned to ease access over the chapel door, to install a disabled toilet and to improve access to the rear of the building.

A short video (554 KB) taken by Eric Timmons gives a very good impression of the work in progress and the finished result. Windows Media Player 9 is needed to view the video.
